FROM THE POET
These poems are an attempt to express the inspiration I feel while beholding Natures' beauty. The verses come to me during an experience or later while remembering. Sometimes a whole poem will just come to thought.
That is fantastic!
Night is such a part of so many of these poems. It is due to the fact that since childhood nighttime has always been a time of magic and wonder. Also, I've
had a love affair with the moon all of my life.
I strive to make sure the poems are pleasing not only in what they say, but in
the pattern of the words on the page. I also enjoy using color to emphasize the idea I am trying to put into words. Color can really set the mood of a poem.
My pen is a brush with which I endeavor to "paint pictures with words."
I have always loved rhyme in poetry, but have come to appreciate prose
that doesn't use, or need rhyme in order to convey what the poet feels.

INTRODUCTION
As you read
I hope you...
hear wind through crisp autumn leaves,
behold the blue-white beauty of moon-lit snow,
see silent meteors streaking through a winter sky,
and answer the distant calls of high-flying geese...
with your heart.
After reading the "Title Poem" ask yourself,
...what are the Night Wings?

NIGHT WINGS
It's late fall with moonlight on snow-covered fields,
and shadow where forest fades into the hills.
Along a glass river the dark willows bend,
as wild-geese cross Milky Way chasing the wind.
Alone on a hill-top I yearn with their flight,
and listen as calls fade away in the night.
Eyes toward the heavens I search with my heart,
to know the creator...and reason my part.
(Title Poem)

SEASONS OF COLOR
Autumn wind thru maple leaves
whirl wind of Gold
Sunset on frozen lake
Crimson on cold
Spring rain on daffodils
Yellows explode
Sun-shaft in forest deep
Emerald secrets unfold

WIND
I walked with the wind last night,
and it embraced me in it's flight.
Whispering close of Spirit...free,
then racing onward to the sea.

Tiny
star-bright
are you a single solitary star?
Or a rotating billion-star galaxy
your light traveling that far distance between us
concentrated by millions of light-years
into that solitary dot of light
shimmering on the

RIVER OF LIGHT
Walk down the path

With full-moon rising

Moonlight on mist

UNIVERSE
In this dark lake
I see star filled heavens
perfectly reflected.
And wonder...
Is there another whole universe
within the perfect reflection?

POSTSCRIPT
In the introduction you were asked to read the "Title Poem"
and ask yourself the question...What are the Night Wings?
The answer is found in the last two verses of the poem:
Eyes toward the heavens I search with my heart,
to know the Creator...and reason my part.
It is the heart taking flight...searching to know God and
His beautiful Universe, and the part we play.

CREDITS
When I finished the book of poems Night Wings I went searching for the perfect picture to put on the Title page. After searching the internet for a long time, I finally clicked on the perfect picture, three geese flying across a full moon.
I called the Canadian photographer Stephen Strathdee who works out of Vancouver to ask him how much the picture would cost, and told him I wanted
it for the front cover of a book of nature poems titled Night Wings.
He agreed, "That picture would be perfect!"
He kindly insisted that I use the
picture for my book...as a gift!
Asking only for a copy of the
book of poems...in return.
THANKS, STEPHEN!
